Bimbia language through scripture

The Isubu people, who speak the Isubu language, claim a Douala origin and are associated with the settlement of Bimbia. While missionaries Joseph Merrick and Alfred Saker translated parts of the Bible and created a grammar and dictionary for the language in the mid-19th century, there is a significant lack of comprehensive historical and contemporary materials, making the study and reconstruction of Isubu’s social and linguistic history extremely difficult.

Apart from the translation of portions of the Bible by the missionaries Joseph Merrick and Alfred Saker, into Isubu, there are no well-documented, transcribed, translated, and analyzed materials in the language. There are however, scriptural passages of the Bible spoken by locals as an example of what modern day Isubu sounds like. These passages are inserted here as examples of the spoken language

Administration

Bimbia is located in Limbe III municipality, within Fako Division in the SW Province. It is managed by a mayor who is appointed by the government.

Diaspora Welcome:

In recent years, many descendants of slaves whose ancestors left Africa from the shores of Bimbia and now reside in the Americas, the Caribbean and other countries have traced their origin to Bimbia. Some of them have made the pilgrimage to Bimbia to discover their ancestry. They are all welcome to come back and explore their origin, learn the language, the tradition and culture.
